Investing in Tomorrow's Opportunity
A Conversation with Thomas Dam, Partner at Investigate.vc
Q: Thomas, after more than 33 years advising family offices and investors, why did you decide to join Investigate.vc?
Thomas Dam:
Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of helping family offices, ultra-high-net-worth individuals and institutional investors preserve, protect and grow wealth across generations. That teaches you something important: successful investing is never simply about maximizing returns. It is about stewardship. It is about understanding how today's investment decisions shape the opportunities available to future generations.
Today, we are entering one of the biggest economic transitions of our lifetime. Artificial intelligence is transforming industries at an unprecedented pace. It will create enormous opportunities, but it will also fundamentally change how value is created and where future jobs come from.
That is exactly why Investigate.vc resonated with me.
Its vision extends beyond investing in startups. It is about helping build what we call The New Opportunity Economy—supporting the founders, companies and technologies that will create the industries, jobs and opportunities of tomorrow. Rather than seeing AI simply as a productivity tool, Investigate.vc is asking a much bigger question: How do we ensure AI also creates opportunity? That is a vision I strongly believe in.
For me, that creates a natural bridge between what I have always done and what I am doing today.
My role remains helping families preserve and grow their wealth over generations. Investigate.vc simply allows me to introduce a differentiated private market opportunity that I genuinely believe deserves consideration as part of a well-diversified long-term investment strategy.
Q: That sounds like a broader view of investing than simply generating returns.
Thomas Dam:
Absolutely. Returns will always matter. They have to.
But over the years I've come to appreciate that the best investors think differently. They don't just ask, "What will generate returns?" They ask, "Where will the next generation of value be created?"
Every generation experiences transformational shifts. Railways. Electricity. The internet. Today, AI is creating another one.
The families I have worked with have always understood that preserving wealth also requires participating in change. Not chasing trends, but identifying structural shifts early and investing with discipline and patience.
That is how long-term wealth is built.
I also believe wealth comes with responsibility. Families who have successfully built businesses over generations understand that investing is not only about preserving what they have created. It is also about helping create the businesses, industries and opportunities that future generations will depend on.
Q: Where do you see venture capital fitting into a family office portfolio?
Thomas Dam:
Every asset class has a purpose.
· Public markets provide liquidity.
· Private equity develops established businesses.
· Real estate provides stability and long-term preservation.
· Venture capital gives investors access to innovation before it becomes obvious.
That doesn't mean venture should become the largest allocation in a portfolio. Far from it.
It should complement an already well-diversified investment strategy, providing carefully selected exposure to the companies and technologies that may define tomorrow's economy.
Every family is different, and every portfolio should reflect that.
My role hasn't changed. It is still to help investors think carefully about long-term capital allocation, risk management and wealth preservation. Venture capital simply becomes another thoughtful component within that broader conversation.
Q: What convinced you that Investigate.vc offers something different?
Thomas Dam:
I've spent my career evaluating investment opportunities, managers and strategies.
What impressed me about Investigate.vc wasn't one individual idea. It was the system.
Traditional venture capital still relies heavily on networks, manual sourcing and human capacity. That has served the industry well, but private markets are becoming larger, faster and more complex.
Investigate.vc has built a systematic investment platform that combines proprietary data, artificial intelligence and experienced investors to identify exceptional companies globally.
More importantly, the platform doesn't stop once an investment has been made.
The team actively helps founders grow by connecting them with commercial expertise, experienced operators, international networks and strategic partnerships.
That creates stronger companies. And stronger companies create better long-term outcomes for investors.
Q: The Manifesto talks about building a "New Opportunity Economy." What does that mean to you as an investor?
Thomas Dam:
I think it's one of the most important conversations we should have.
For decades, large corporations created opportunity by hiring graduates and developing them through traditional career paths. AI is changing that. Many of those entry-level roles are evolving or disappearing, which means we need to think differently about how the next generation gains experience, responsibility and leadership opportunities.
Entrepreneurship becomes part of the answer.
When young companies win their first customers, they grow. When they grow, they hire people. When they hire people, they create entirely new pathways into the economy.
That is why I believe capital has an important role beyond generating returns.
By supporting the right founders and helping great companies scale, we are also investing in future jobs, future industries and future prosperity.
That is an incredibly meaningful mission.
Q: You've chosen to become a Partner at Investigate.vc. Why was that important to you?
Thomas Dam:
Because I believe in alignment.
Throughout my career, trust has been my most valuable asset. The relationships I've built over more than three decades have been founded on transparency, consistency and long-term thinking.
If I'm introducing an investment opportunity to families and investors I've worked with for many years, they should know that I have taken the time to understand it thoroughly.
That's why I chose to become both a Partner and an investor. If I invite others to join me on a long-term investment journey, I believe I should be on exactly the same journey myself.
Alignment builds trust. And trust is the foundation of every successful long-term relationship.
Q: Finally, what would you say to the families and investors you've advised throughout your career?
Thomas Dam:
First, thank you.
Many of the relationships I've built over the past three decades have become genuine friendships based on trust, transparency and shared values. That doesn't change because I've joined Investigate.vc.
I will continue helping families think carefully about preserving and growing their wealth across generations.
What has changed is that I now have the opportunity to introduce them to a venture platform that I believe represents something genuinely different.
A platform built on data, discipline, global reach and deep operational support. One that seeks not only to generate attractive long-term returns, but also to help build the companies that will shape the future economy.
My invitation is simple. Take the time to understand what we are building. Not simply because I believe our VC Fund represents an attractive long-term investment opportunity, but because I believe it gives investors the opportunity to participate in something much bigger.
The next generation of great companies. The next generation of industries. And ultimately, the next generation of opportunity.
For me, that is what responsible stewardship of capital looks like.
