Are You Taking Advantage of AI to Invest in Tomorrow’s Winners?

How AI and technology can help family offices identify where the next generation of wealth may be created

By Investigate VC

Artificial intelligence is creating extraordinary opportunities for investors. Much of the attention has understandably focused on the companies and industries that AI will transform.

But there is another opportunity that may be just as important for family offices:

How can AI improve the way we invest?

AI gives investors the ability to analyze vastly more information, connect developments across industries and search globally for companies positioned around emerging opportunities. For family offices with a long-term responsibility to protect and grow wealth, AI is therefore not simply an investment theme. It can become a new source of investment intelligence.

At Investigate VC, this is how we think about the opportunity.

We are a data- and insights-driven venture fund. Our proprietary research engine continuously uses AI, data and synthetic research to analyze movements across markets and industries. We want to understand where change is happening, where value is migrating and where new startup opportunities may emerge.

One of the technologies we have developed to do this is Sector Twin.

From Companies to Industries

As part of our partnership with Campden Wealth, we recently introduced our Value Migration Framework and five forces we believe are changing where future wealth will be created.

One of those shifts was Companies → Industries.

We argued that tomorrow’s winners are often created by structural changes long before the winning companies become obvious. That leads to an important question for any venture investor:

Before deciding which companies to invest in, how do we determine where we should be looking for them?

Our approach is to start further upstream. We analyze how an industry is changing, understand where those changes could cause value to migrate, and use Sector Twin to translate that movement into intelligence about emerging opportunities. Only then do we move towards company selection and the investment decision.

The process moves systematically from industries to investment decisions.

Figure 1: The Investigate VC Sector Twin investment process starts with industry transformation and value migration before using Sector Twin intelligence to inform company selection and investment decisions.

How Sector Twin works

The visual above shows the overall investment process. Sector Twin provides the intelligence layer that connects changes taking place within an industry with the companies that could ultimately benefit from them.

It starts by building a structured representation of an industry’s DNA: its physical assets, operational capabilities, market dynamics, workforce and underlying needs.

This helps us understand how the industry works, how it is being transformed and where structural challenges or areas of whitespace may exist.

We then connect that industry view with the global innovation economy: entrepreneurs, startups, scale-ups, technologies and frontier research emerging across sectors and geographies.

Using AI, Sector Twin can explore where industry needs intersect with these emerging capabilities.

Where those intersections occur, new opportunity spaces can emerge.

An opportunity space is much more specific than a trend.

Saying “AI will transform logistics” tells an investor relatively little. We want to understand which parts of logistics could change, which bottlenecks may disappear, where costs could fall, where competitive advantage could move and, ultimately, what new businesses might become possible as a result.

Sector Twin helps us turn those questions into investment hypotheses and search for companies whose capabilities match the opportunities we believe are emerging.

We are not simply using AI to find more companies. We are using AI to develop a better understanding of which companies we should be looking for in the first place.

Looking beyond industry boundaries

This becomes particularly powerful because innovation increasingly moves across traditional sectors.

Technology developed for aerospace might solve a problem in maritime. Computer vision developed for one application may unlock value in agriculture or manufacturing. An optimization technology developed in one sector may transform the economics of another.

The company and the problem do not necessarily originate in the same industry.

Sector Twin therefore looks beyond conventional industry classifications and focuses on functional relevance.

What can technology actually do? What problem can it solve? Where else could that capability create value?

AI allows us to explore these connections across industries, technologies, companies and geographies at a scale that would be extremely difficult for an investment team to continuously analyze manually.

AI as an investment capability

None of this means asking AI to pick tomorrow’s winner.

Founder quality, execution, timing, competition, valuation and due diligence remain fundamental. Human expertise and investment judgement remain at the center of our decisions.

What AI can improve is the opportunity set from which those decisions are made.

As the Sector Twin investment process illustrates, AI allows us to move the starting point further upstream - from evaluating the deal flow already in front of us to systematically understand where we should be looking for opportunities in the first place.

AI expands what we can see. Human judgement determines what it means.

For family offices, we believe this creates an exciting opportunity. Many families already possess exceptional sector expertise, investment experience and networks. AI does not replace those advantages. It can amplify them.

This is also an important part of the value we seek to provide at Investigate VC. Our investors gain access not simply to the companies we ultimately select, but to the AI-powered research, sector intelligence and systematic investment process behind how we find them.

The objective is not to predict the future with AI. It is to use AI to expand our ability to discover where the future may be emerging.

Continuing the conversation

This leads to a question we believe is increasingly relevant for family offices:

How can you take advantage of what AI now makes possible to improve your investment strategy and increase your ability to participate in tomorrow’s winners?

This is a conversation we are taking to family office communities around the world. At upcoming events and in direct conversations with families, we will share how we use AI, technology, and Sector Twin to understand industry transformation, map value migration, and identify emerging opportunity spaces.

We look forward to engaging with family offices interested in exploring how these capabilities can strengthen their approach to venture investing and future wealth creation.

If these are questions you are considering within your own family office, we would be delighted to continue the conversation.

Because ultimately, the opportunity extends well beyond investing in AI.

It is about taking advantage of AI to help us invest better.

About The Study

This article draws on findings from The Future Wealth Creation Study 2026, a global research initiative conducted by Investigate VC exploring how Family Office CIOs think about future wealth creation.

The study was conducted using a panel of 1,000 AI-generated Family Office CIO profiles designed to reflect the diversity of the global Family Office ecosystem across geographies, investment styles, sizes and wealth origins.

This approach, often referred to as synthetic research, uses advanced AI models to simulate how specific groups of decision-makers may evaluate opportunities, risks and future scenarios.

The research behind this article reflects how Investigate VC approaches investing. The firm combines proprietary AI research with access to global startup ecosystems, including Antler, to identify where value is moving before it becomes obvious. Investigate VC is currently raising a $150 million venture fund focused on backing founders at the intersection of industry transformation and future value creation.
